One of the oldest healing and relaxing method is massage. It has already evolved into several types yet its effectiveness never changes. Around the world, massage is widely used. Almost every part of the world has its own version of massage.

Because of its long time existence, massage has already become part of the oldest healing traditions of the world. In fact, it has given birth to several massage types. There is the Swedish massage, Shiatsu, Aromatherapy Massage, Reflexology and more. Massage has a therapeutic property that is believed to heal several body disorders.

Massage targets the whole body through a direct contact with the body’s largest organ, the skin. The skin of the human body is connected to several nerves. When touched and massaged, these nerves can function properly.

Studies show that massage is useful in treating body disorders like anxiety, arthritis, body pain, head ache, neck and shoulder pain, muscle pains, high blood pressure, insomnia and even digestive and emotional disorders. Massage can also be used in infants. The pressure varies depending on the body disorder that a patient is experiencing and also depending on the age and body structure of the patient.

Why Is Massage Effective?

Massage is very effective because it relaxes a person’s body. When the body is relaxed, it is more able to deal with disorders. Through the manipulation of the nerves and soft body tissues during a massage treatment, the body releases brain chemical known to make a person feel better called endorphins. The body is also relaxed after a massage because the level of stress hormones produced by the body is reduced.

By undergoing a massage treatment, you will be able to experience alleviation from body disorders that are mentioned above. Massage relieves tension, stress and pains. It makes a person feel healthy and revived.

Types Of Massage

Over the years, there have already been several types of massage. They differ from case to case basis. The most common types of massage are:

  • Reflexology

This type of massage specifically targets major points in the feet and sometimes the hands and ears to treat body disorders. The reflexologist puts pressure on certain points that corresponds to the disorder that the patient is experiencing.

  • Aromatherapy Massage

This type of massage makes use of aromatic oils to make a person feel more relaxed and rejuvenated during a massage. These essential oils are known to revive a person’s well being and to relieve body tension and stress.

  • Therapeutic Massage

This is the western massage known to relieve the body of disorders and sickness. This type of massage promotes healthy blood circulation.

  • Shiatsu

This is a type of massage that is derived from the Japanese. In shiatsu, the fingers and palm of the hands are used to put pressure on certain points in the body.

Massage is indeed a very effective way to make a person feel better. Just make sure you get a massage treatment from someone who is qualified to perform a massage to ensure you get the many health benefits of massage.
