Are you looking for ways to create an extra income from the comfort of your home? This article will go into the pros and cons of owning your own home based business while helping you to manage your home based business as well.

Working from home is a dream come true for millions of families world wide. In the past, everyone used to work from home. Families would take care of their farms, businesses, local "mom & pop" companies right from the comfort of their own home. From there came the industrial revolution where the father now left the family and worked at a factory, or office. These days, not only is the father leaving home, but the mother as well. This causes a lot of strain on the family and not helping to bring up our kids.

People now are re-considering the benefits of working from a home based office so they can stay closer to their family and secure their own future. People are getting tired of their lives being run by strangers.

Let's go into the pros and cons of working from home:

Time Management:

Having worked from home for over 8 years now, I can truly say that time management is one of the hardest skills you have to develop in order to have a healthy and successful home. You must learn to manage your time for;

a) Family
If you don't have support from your family, it will be hard for you to manage your time appropriately. It's vital to keep a balance between business, family time, and time for yourself.

b) Business
Setting time aside for your business will determine how productive you become on a regular basis. I find it easier to schedule time that doesn't interfere with my family to work on my business. Early in the morning and late at night are the most productive times. During the day, you might get distracted from being productive. Others have found it easier to clearly outline their business hours (9am-5pm) in order to stay productive. Make sure to keep to your schedule and make it part of your daily lifestyle.

c) Cooking
When one member of the family goes out to work while the other stays at home, the person staying in will typically be responsible for cooking meals on a daily basis. Each week, come up with a meal plan that will help you to manage your time efficiently in order to maintain family stability and not interfere to much with your work.

d) Cleaning
Keeping your house clean is another daily battle. Don't forget that the more time you spend from home, the more you have to clean on a regular basis just from the use and regular traffic.

e) Outings
Make sure to spontaneously go out from time to time. Outings are a great way to stay motivated and prevent you from going mentally crazy from staying in all the time. Just remember that when you work at a job away from home, you get the opportunity to leave every day. This plays a huge role on your sub-conscious. When you work from home, you have to go out as much as possible to stay fresh and revitalized.

f) Friends
Friends can have a negative effect on productivity. The reason for this is because when friends know you are always home, they tend to show up for daily visits. Make sure to outline time lines friends must respect so that you don't get unexpected visitors who take up your entire afternoon.

Family Time:

Having the ability to work 20,40,70 hours a week has a direct effect on your family. Support from all family members will reduce a lot of stress caused by playtime, outings, and any other moments spent together. If you have children, this process becomes even harder from the demand on your attention. Make sure to outline rules and regulations for your children to help them understand the importance of business, and the time you have for playtime.

Once in a while you need to take a break!

Take a day off work from time to time to spend it with your family & friends. People will appreciate you more and give you the support you need when you make it your priority to pay attention to their needs as well. Don't forget that working from home is restricted to 24 hours a day which every little thing that you do is dependant on those 24 hours.

Do NOT Miss Family Gatherings!

I'm even guilty of this. In the past, I would miss one or two family gatherings from time to time and soon realized that this made a lot of people upset. People understand that you have the ability to make your own hours and expect you to show up to family events. You are your own boss and should always consider family 1st, business 2nd.

Work On Anything You Want:

Working from home gives you the ability to put your time into a business of your choice. Take any passion that really interests you and find a way to make money from it. Network marketing offers anyone the ability to work from home. These days, you can probably find an opportunity that interests you the most.

Make The Income You Want:

Whatever you get into, the amount of time you put into your business will reflect on your income. There's no limit to the amount of money you make from home. You don't need an expensive office, and many employees to impress customers. Hard working people are always sought after no matter what industry your in.

In fact, lately corporations are catching on to the "stay at home" assistant. More and more, larger corporations are finding ways to send their employees home to work on daily business tasks. A happy employee is a loyal one. Don't be afraid to ask for a laptop, or desktop to work out of house. Many corporations are giving higher hourly wages for people to work at home.

Reap The Many Tax Benefits:

The home based business tax benefits alone are worth the work. You will be able to write off part of your mortgage, utility bills, business expenses, some household expenses, vehicle expenses, insurance, security, plus many more daily expenses that we normally spend money on.

Back To The Question, Is A Home Based Business Really For Me?

- Be your own boss
- Make your own hours
- Spend quality time with your family
- Watch your children grow up
- Take time off when you want
- Make as much money as you want
- Get all the tax benefits

With so many pros to working from home, it's not a surprise that you hear more and more people who are switching from the job scene, firing their boss, and turning towards a home based business.
