Many guides will show you how to make money in Runescape if you have a high level character, or high skills or is you are a paid member but these guides don't help you if you are a free member or you are new to the game. In this guide I'm going to show you just how to make money in Runescape by picking bananas!
I know that sounds crazy but bear with me :-) The technique is based on a side quest that is available to everybody and all you'll need to get started is 30 gold. The quest is repeatable and I'll show you how you can do it very quickly and that will enable you to make around 1000 gold per hour!
First of all, you need to get yourself to the Island of Karjama via a boat ride from Port Sarim.
Getting To the Banana Plantation
I can't insert a map into this article so I will do my best to direct you from a common location - Lumbridge, which is the starter town for all players. Port Sarim is almost directly west of Lumbridge but if you are not familiar with the area then you may be better off taking the road.
Head north from Lumbridge and the road will turn west and then south to the port. Along the way the road will wind through a forrest filled with wandering goblins. These are handy because you need 30 gold for the boat ride so if you don't have that you can smack a few gobbies to get the cash!
Taking the Boat to the Island of Karjama
The road will take you through the forrest and onto Port Sarim. There are various docks here and you need to look for a sailor dressed in blue. He is at the end of one of the docks about half way down the pier. Ask him to take you to the Island of Karjama. He will offer to take you for 30 gold. Pay the fee and take the trip.
Working the Banana Picking Job
A little way down the path from the dock is a house and inside there is a guy called Luthas. He is the quest giver we are looking for. Speak to him to pick up the quest. He will ask you to go pick bananas from his plantation and fill up the crate by his house.
The plantation is around the back of Luthas' house just up the path. It contains plenty of banana trees and each tree has around 5 bananas for picking. In my time there I didn't see many other people there so I was able to pick them really quickly.
Most skills in runescape such as cutting down a tree or mining rocks take several seconds to perform but banana picking is instant - this means you can grab your 10 bananas literally in a few seconds. Couple that speed with the fact that the quest is repeatable and you can see why you can make so much money with this method
You have 24 slots in your inventory and in order to fill up the crate for Luthas you need 10 bananas. So, if you collect 20 bananas on each run to the plantation you can complete the quest 2 times over for each little run. That makes the money come in just that bit faster!
Once you have your 20 bananas run back to the house, the crate is just outside. Right click on the crate and select "Fill Crate". Don't click the bananas from your inventory or you will eat them :-)
Once the crate is full, go back to Luthas and speak to him. Once he gives you the payment, speak to him again to repeat the task. Don't forget this part otherwise you waste time running around! Now simply rinse and repeat and within an hour you will have 1000gp or more depending on how quickly you do it.
