In every industry, there are topics for writing articles that I call "Gem Topics". These topics usually yield high amounts of traffic and are sometimes controversial. These "Gem Articles" are usually topics in the world today that are on the minds of many people, and have a direct impact on society.
HOT! HOT! HOT!
People everywhere are news buffs. We as humans need to stay up-to-date almost to the second on topics that interest us.
Writing articles on key issues ultimately depends on a couple of things:
- What industry you generally write about.
- What subjects you love to talk about.
- What world news is being discussed, or debated right now.
- What future concepts are brewing for tomorrow.
Good Industry Knowledge Will Help You To Pick Your Key Issues:
There are many authors out there that are really knowledgeable about the industry they write about. These authors usually get published within higher end publication websites, and newspapers world wide. For these types of authors, writing about key issues comes naturally to them. If you're a one of these authors like I described here, then you already know the power of writing hot topics to get major exposure offline, and online.
How Often Should I Write About Key Issues?
There is no limit to the amount of articles you produce but know this, for some authors who write consistently, they could wait years until they write that one "Gem Article" that ultimately gets distributed within every publication, newsletter, rss feed, and blog world wide in a matter of days.
These "Gem Articles" are rare. You could write about the hottest topics out there but sometimes it takes the right editor, or the right time to receive major recognition online. A few years back, I used to submit to WebProNews.com on a regular basis. My articles usually got published within their sub-category news listings but, this one time, when they previously used other sources world wide, one of my articles hit their "Front page - Top story"! This was huge for me. Not only did I feel great about being the featured author but, my website stats went through the roof. WebProNews.com rss feeds are literally on 1000's of websites world wide. Overnight, my website had received over 20,000 visitors just from that one "Gem Article". No article I've ever published since got the exposure it did from that one feature article.
The point is this. If you're looking to write that "Gem Article" just don't give up the battle. Sub-Feature articles work just as good at getting traffic for your business. The goal is to keep writing about key issues because one day, you might hit it big! Writing one or two articles a year just won't cut it. If you truly want to be a well-recognized player, you need to write at least once a month, or even once a week, or a true player will write once a day.
How Do I Know What To Write About?
Sometimes, something happens within your industry that is so hot, you can cook an egg on it. These are easy key issues that are right in your face. Other key issues are created by authors like you.
When I look for a hot topic, I think about the industry I know best and write down what everyone is talking about online, and I also write down topics that people aren't talking about. The key here is the topics that people aren't talking about. Take this information, do your due-diligence to get some reference material and start writing your heart out.
What Is So Special About Topics That People Aren't Talking About?
These are usually topics that sometimes no one wants to say anything about because, they are afraid that they might say something wrong, or look like the bad guy for bringing it up. If it's a topic that has a lot of baggage, and is considered controversial, it sometimes really pays to be the one to bring it up. Please don't get me wrong, I don't want you to get nasty about a given topic, I want you to look at a possible "failure", or "error", or "screw up", or "negative effect".
Here's A Couple of Example of Such Controversial Topics:
- Why car companies don't want you to think about battery operated vehicles.
- Why the government favors money over cleaning up the environment.
- Why Google's search results are impossible for small business owners to dominate.
- Why ... why ... why!?
Get the drift?
In Conclusion:
Gem articles are right there waiting to be discovered, you just need to do a little research and to keep a close eye on what authors are talking about. If there's already too many authors talking about "it", then "it" has most likely already gotten too much press for individual authors to get noticed.
