Virus scans, spy ware and popup blockers, are they sufficient to keep you computer running smoothly? I thought so until recently. I found out the hard way that my computer was vulnerable.
With the advanced technology of today, you would think that having virus protectors, anti-spy ware programs and popup blockers installed on your computer would ensure its safety from hijackers. At least this was what I thought, until recently. As a virtual assistant, president of Innovative Virtual Creation http://ivc4u.com, my computer is my livelihood, so I thought I had taken all the necessary precautions. I found out the hard way that my computer was vulnerable.
Recently while I was surfing the internet, my virus scan displayed a warning that stated I had contracted a virus. After receiving the warning, I placed it in quarantine and figured that would be sufficient to get rid of this nuisance. It did get rid of it, but only for a short period of time. Within the next few days, I received the warning again. This time I wrote down the name and looked up. I found some removal instructions which I followed. Again in a day or two, the virus was back. It was determined to make its home on my computer. Then I decided to do a more in depth search and seek outside help.
In my search to a fix this problem, I came across a forum (http://www.bullguard.com/forum/) that is dedicated to helping people get rid of stubborn viruses and spy ware hijackers. Thanks to this forum, the instructions they gave me did get rid of this virus for good, which was actually spy ware that had infected my computer. At the bottom of the reply was a link to another site with an article titled “How Did I Get Infected in the First Place?” by Tony Klein.
This article really intrigued my curiosity. I wanted to know how this happened to me, especially since I did have programs that were supposed to protect my computer against this kind of attack. I guess these computer hackers have a lot of time on their hands and have come up with clever ways of getting around virus protectors and anti-spy ware programs. I clicked the link and read the article.
The article was very interesting and informative. The reason I encountered a problem on my computer was my security settings were set too low. The article had a list of security items to check for and make sure they are adequately set. According to this list, there were a few things that I had failed to do, which was the reason for my computer’s vulnerability. I did take their advice and downloaded the programs I didn’t have. The article also recommended several free programs along with their download links that have been used effectively to protect computers from hijackers. If you are on a tight budget like I am, then I highly recommend you read the article and use their suggestions. Since all of this, I am happy to say that my computer has been running very well and I am confident that it is now adequately protected, for now that is.
