Don't Make Me Laugh

Author: Bob Caterino Bob Caterino Personal RSS Feed

Just who makes you laugh? I know comedians come and go but those who come and stay are usually the ones compassionate about their job.

Ever since the dawn of man, we have been laughing.  Laughing is a stress reliever as well as a great way to pass the time away.  Crying doesn’t do anyone any good but we still do it.  Why do we cry?  Well death is a very good reason to cry but anything less is not a reasonable reason.

People like Jerry Seinfeld and George Wallace, are great examples of long stay comics.  They were in it from the beginning and knew what they were in for, the long haul.  I started out as a stand up but just couldn’t handle the pressures of the road and my wife put her foot down and it happened to be on top of my foot.

I guess the first comedian was a cave man.  He probably did some funny noises or grunts.  If he did talk back then it maybe went a little something like this. “Ug, my wife is so heavy, when I drag her around the cave, she drags around the cave.  I took my club and hit my mother in law over the head with it and I must say that she owes me a new one.  Who knew it would make like a banana and split.  I got to tell yaw folks, being a caveman really stinks and that’s only because we haven’t invented bathing yet.”

I just felt the need to praise all comedians trying to make us laugh.  It takes a lot to get out there and do it.  Funny or not, they all have my attention.

About The Author:

My name is Bob D. Caterino and I am a published author of four books working on my fifth.  Born in the city of Newark, New Jersey, I was always funny or at least that’s what everyone told me.  I started writing when I was thirteen using a 1952 typewriter given to me by a neighbor.  I would freelance my work when I was fifteen and recorded radio station spots for a few local stations.  When I was sixteen, I was co starring on a local television show on UHF called “The Uncle Floyd Show.”  At twenty one, I started to perform my stand up all across the tri state area.   After that fizzled out I worked as a writer for many local news papers and magazines.  Now writing and focusing on novels, I found my knish, my forte, my thing. Being here at Authors Club is just the icing on the cake, or at least a candle.
